One writer covers the guides on this site, and the founder sets the standards she works from. Here is who they are.

Jessica Martinez

Contributing Writer, Auto Repair Costs

Jessica writes the repair cost guides on this site: what an AC compressor job actually runs, how to read a shop quote, and what to do when the AC starts blowing warm. Her beat is consumer repair costs generally, auto and home systems both, and she spends a fair amount of time on the phone with shops and parts counters checking that a number in a guide still matches what a shop would quote today.

Before covering repair costs, Jessica worked in local news, where she learned that the fastest way to lose a reader's trust is to publish a number you have not actually checked. She lives in the Midwest and drives a car old enough that she has personally paid for more than one of the repairs covered on this site.

Chris Terry

Founder & Editor

Chris founded this site and the small group of repair and home-cost calculators it belongs to. He does not write the guides, but he sets the sourcing rules the writers work under and signs off on how the pricing model is built. The full breakdown of those rules is on the editorial standards page.
